This does look pretty boring just watching, but imagine how tense the person in the duel is. You have to anticipate your opponents moves and counter them. Fencing is more interesting if you're the one participating.

LOL I didn't read the description at first so i was watching them thinking, "why aren't they doing anything?" Then I was like, "oh wait is this epee?"  (Don't mind me I'm just a 5' foilist with blade envy)

i've been training for a while and i must say fleure (if i spelled it right) is more interesting both to watch AND to be a part of.

Epee gets a lot of flak for being boring to watch...it probably is...but it is also the easiest for spectators to understand with the absence of the "right of way" rule. But the ability for both fencers to score on the same action also makes epee the most like an actual duel. It's not like foil or sabre where right of way means you can get hit without penalty as long as you are the one on the attack. In epee, you have to protect against getting hit too (esp if you are behind). Physical chess.

i dont think any of u have fenced epee at this level. if u did u would see that this is one of the most intense feelings u could ever feel. basically it comes down to u defending ur country and being able to control all of ur fear and turn it into a win.

this is why they are taking so long to get a point. no one wants to loose, but some body has to. the only question is which one of them.
