Robin Hood (Sean Connery) versus the Sheriff of Nottingham (Robert Shaw) from the film Robin and Marian (1976). Footage was edited down to just the fight, with a slight change in order to keep the flow right.
Considered to be one of the most realistic sword fights in film.

It only looks silly because you're used to over choreographed Hollywood fight scenes.

This is what a real duel would look like, it's brutal, it's cruel and above all it is not pretty.

  • @TheDiego1255 sean connery (the one with the beard)

  • which ones robin hood?

  • this looks soo silly^^

  • thats the second time those two were each others enemies here as Robin Hood and The Sherrif of Nottingham and in 1963 as James Bond and Red Grant

  • the thing is this is probably more historically accurate to the way fights were fought

And how does it fit in with my comment? I was explaining to him why it looks so stupid. But if you mentioned it, there are some basic differences between conventional fighting in gym and cruel brawl, we both know dont worry.

Agree about that morons, and hollywood its self is for morons.

  • @Retarior I also know fencing, and kendo. I'm a skilled swordsman if I do say so, and I know the mechanics behind real dueling. Further - I know that in a fight to the death - you're trying to kill the other guy, not play around with swords.

Even so, this is Hollywood - and the actors aren't trying to hurt each other. Plus, most viewers are morons who wouldn't know the difference between an Epee and a Rapier.

  • How is a movie from 1976 so much worse than a movie from 1938?

  • @LithiumLogica

I am in to sword fencing and i can tell you it is horrible now. Well but in those days it was quite common. It tok long hours of persuading people that not only asia but even Europe has its fighting arts than are sometimes even better, and it tok many years to rise even the smallest part of competent fencers... Well in these years it might actuaelly be the best sword fighting scene... but not now.
