Part 7 of a 7-part series with Dr. Eugenie C. Scott: The Bible, the Flood, and the Grand Canyon.
Dr. Scott believes that affirming science and believing in God are compatible. However, claims by creationists that the Grand Canyon was created by a flood several thousand years ago are contrary to good science.
Recorded at the 'Biology of Genomes' meeting at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, June 1, 2009.

  • If your a creationist or a non-theist who has encountered creationists watch this video more than once please.

  • @MiracleKD18

    Hear hear, brother.

I'm a bit curious though, you brought up reincarnation. Is this a denominational belief or simply your own? And if the former, which one?

  • Yes! Dear God, YES!

While the scientific process and spiritual forces (real or imagined) fall within different domains, they are not necessarily mutually exclusive of each other.

Incidentally, what she said about "flood geology" raises an interesting point. Young Earth Creationism, particularly interpretations that suggest God "made things look old" is inherently blasphemous; it suggests that God is lying to his creation.

  • @MiracleKD18 . Conflict is the result of misunderstanding and misinterpretation.

The Bible indicates that we consist of a spiritual body and a physical body which are separated at death (physical). Which body does the Bible encourage us to focus on? Which body are Scientists and Evolutionists centered in? 'Decay' and 'evolution' cannot exist in a dimension without 'time'.

"And God said, 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.' "

    1. I realize that, but I don't care.

    2. I don1t take the Biblie literally.

    3. Early Christians believed in reincarnation.

  • @MiracleKD18 I hope you realize that many Christians would claim that you are not a real Christian if you believe those things. If you take the bible literally, you cannot believe in reincarnation or evolution.

  • Religion and Science are NOT Incompatible.

I am a christian, but I believe in reincarnation, too.

I believe that God created the world, but at the same time, I believe in the evoltion, too. I believe in some sort of bridge beetwen the two.
