My final project for S&S Film, Fall 2007 at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Features quotes by my great-grandfather, Charles Fraser Comfort. Shot on 16mm B&W film with an Arri S (sound is not sync because of the camera). All editing done by hand on an old school Steenbeck. Color is stock 16mm footage.

  • It was transferred from film to HD tape at a professional post-house, and the stock footage is given in the class i did this for. Usually the stock footage is used for sound fill since we cut old-school with splicers and splicing tape. If you splice (optical) film into the magnetic audio track, it won't be recognized by the audio tape heads and therefore gives you silence. It just so happens that there's some really interesting stuff on there, so i used it.

  • Incredibly well done... incredibly.

  • this is so amazing.. where is the song from? X!

  • i relaly enjoyed this

  • I'm going to try to transfer my film to HD as well. Did you use Postworks post-house by any chance? I don't know if NYU has HD tape decks does it? Because all I've used is the miniDV ones, and what tape do you recommend and how do you get it to your comp? Sorry for all the questions; your film just looks really good.

  • Great Film! How did you digitize it, because the quality looks amazing, and if you don't mind, where did you get the stock footage from?

  • Dude, this is brilliant. How much of this footage was shot by you, and where did you get the others?

I'm planning on applying to NYU once I'm finished my undergrad at the University of Toronto and your stuff is an inspiration.

    Best of luck!
