As Israelis celebrate the 60th anniversary of the creation of their state, Sir David Frost looks back at the events of 1948 and the ongoing Palestinian/Israeli conflict. He talks to some of the key players in the region - in this part of the show to Israeli politician Isaac Herzog, Palestinian scholar and political activist Hanan Ashrawi, and to Al Jazeera's senior political analyst, Marwan Bishara.

  • Isaac Herzog’s father was Chaim Herzog, born Clifton Park Avenue in Belfast. In 1935 he emigrated to Palestine, and in 1936-39 he served in the Jewish paramilitary group, Haganah as branch chief at the time of the Deir Yassin massacre and other atrocities. Like father like son… At last after years of careful genetic selection; behold The Uber Zionist.

    God what awful people

  • @GustavoCLa

Exactly, Thats why Israel is a democracy, we have all faiths practising in freedom their religion. Their are muslims living all over Europe, it doesnt mean England , France, Italy should belong to the muslims, Same with Israel, the jews have had a presence their 3500 years, so who is anyone to come along and claim it as theirs. Its only a matter of time before we see muslims claiming parts of Europe to be theirs,

The haters will never win look at history

  • @jlc29181 Palestine belongs to those who live there, regardless of religion. There are 200 chrstians and 150 muslims for each jew in the World. The proportion of states is adequate. But in the end all states should be for all religions.

  • @GustavoCLa

I 100% agree with you. The Israelites (hebrews) have been around for over 3500 years, so seeming that their the Palestinian authority was only set up in 1964, never known as a people until 1967, i agree, that Palestine is Israel and belongs to the jews.

The muslims have 64 countries in the world, the christians have 45 states, so the jews having 1 little land, that is stated is theirs in the bibe and the quran, it is only a problem to the people of false faith and ignorance,

  • @jlc29181 Israel is Palestine. Palestine is Israel.

  • @GustavoCLa Israel is a Democracy, the only one in the middle east. As Israel is a democracy we have equal rights for all its citizens, jewish, christian, or muslim. We do not have jewish roads, because Israeli citizens are of all faiths. Jews have had a presence in Israel for 3500 years, before christianity and islam existed. We had a monarchy, a currency, a language, over 3000 years ago, their has never been a Palestinian anything their,

Jordan is Palestine, Palestine is Jordan

  • Go back to your Israeli bubble. You must think it's very cool to live under ocupation. Israel never gave any land. Israel returned land. And it never offered 100% of it. Treat people like animals and they'll behave like animals. I don't feel sorry you because when your crazy zionists decided to make your state in Palestine, you chose the conflict. Palestinians never chose it. Fuck the Apartheid state.

  • @wownouser

And you also have a lot of "huzpah" to mock the importance of the wall. It's very easy from where ever you are in the world to mock other people's children being exploded in coffee shops, bus stops, malls etc. The fact is that the wall minimized the Palestinian terror , because it's more difficult for them to cross from the west bank into Israel. As I've written, this is my last comment. You really got on my nerves and I don't feel like waisting any more energy in trying to explain

  • @wownouser

For your information, the wave of Palestinian terror attacks that came after the signing of the Oslo accords just about killed the Israeli left. I'm not kidding, it killed it. Until now the Israeli left hasn't recovered , because even the lefties in Israel couldn't figure out what the Palestinian wants. Here we were in the middle of a peace process, Israel giving more amd more land to the Palestinians, hope is in the air, and what do the Palestinians do? kill more and more Israelis

  • @GustavoCLa

You really are writing nonesense. And I'm tired of trying to explain to someone who doesn't even live here and gets all his info from palestinian misinformation how thinhs really are. So that's my last comments. You have a lot of "huzpah" telling me that Palestinian terrorism is only an excuse for us Israelis not to make peace. Living as I did in Jerusalem in the 1990's and beginning of 2000's and having a bus full of people exploding every week is no game and no excuse
