Google Chrome Beta 1 on Linux Mint

Today, December 8, 2009, Google released the first beta of its Chrome browser for linux. I was eager to try it out so I attempted an install: first on my main system (Debian Lenny Gnome). This did not pan out so I went to plan B

I restarted my computer with the latest version of Linux Mint, Helena which is essentially Ubuntu Karmic Koala. I used the live CD on my Dell Dimension 4400 with 512 MB ram.

Installation went well and the results you can see in the video.

Can't wait to try it out under Debian Lenny, once a package is built!

dpkg -i google-chrome-beta_current_i38­6.deb would have installed it for you from the command line. apt-get searches the repos online whereas dpkg will use a local file.

You are right. I forgot about dpkg. My command line skills are improving since I switch to debian Lenny on my main machine.

I remembered dpkg a few days after I posted the video. I hoped no one would notice.

I installed and used gtk-recordmydesktop.

Recordmydesktop recorded everything on screen and saved as an .ogv file. I saved this to my flash drive. Then I rebooted Debian. I converted the ogv to an avi file, did some editing then uploaded it.
