Fela Kuti - Zombie

A recording of my university big band jamming on Fela Kuti's "Zombie". I think we were caught a little off guard with the tempo at first! Haha. So how this works is the band jams out on the melody and looong solo sections... and then someone plays the part of Fela in his singing/call-and-response section. That person is me.

5:00 = not me.
7:15 = not me..
9:35 = not me...

Everything else = me.

Oh yes, I should mention the band learned each section of the tune by ear, and the form was dictated by our director so we had to watch for each section to be cued, and we never knew what would be cued. Myself and the director communicated through eye contact and nods, haha!

At some parts you sound like John Coltrane, did he play with similiar saxophone? Don't mean it's a bad thing or it sounds too much like coltrane. It's very nicely improvised :)

@3968Nico I checked it out online, he played a few different Selmers including the Mark VI and used a metal mouthpiece (Otto Link). I play a Mark VII Selmer and a hard rubber Vandoren mouthpiece. My Selmer is SUCH a great horn, thanks for your comments!
