Here it is, the final rendition of the third movement of the Fifth Season. This was the debut of the piece in my college orchestra. A few things before a description of the piece itself. Firstly this was my last concert with my orchestra as classes will be interfering, now, with my schedules. I plan to upload a few other clips from that concert. Secondly, a big thanks goes out to the maker of the violin and bow, Randy Steenburgen, who let me borrow it personally. I greatly appreciate his kindness in helping me fulfill a dream. Now the information on the piece as it appeared in the program of the concert:

The Fifth Season was originally inspired by Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and borrows certain techniques from this masterwork. However while the "Four Seasons" deal with nature and the physical the "Fifth Season" deals with more emotional and metaphysical aspects. His love of religious study and philosophy coupled with his love of music led Antonio to composing a three movement Sonata each dealing with specific aspects of the metaphysical. The third movement's title, "The Numinous," is a term coined by Rudolf Otto's book "Das Heilige" referring to that which is beyond comprehension. Throughout the third movement the violin imitates two voices constantly causing a sort of illusion on the ear to make it sound as if more instruments are playing. This Sonata relies heavily on improvisation, one of the composer's favorite methods of playing, and though the score is written the player is supposed to make certain choices as to how he or she wishes for passages to be played. This is most apparent in the cadenza particularly due to the fact that half of it is unwritten and is intended to be improvised on spot.

  • i find it amazing you could write such an amazing solo work, and the majority of it is played in first position!

one day i will try to learn this piece, but i dont think im quite ready yet.

  • @Igneous01 I am certain you could learn the piece if you take it slow and work your way up. A lot of it is based on personal improvisation as well so the score is a loose interpretation of what I've played here. And, it being in primarily first position, makes it a much more doable piece for the violin student. I'll admit, though, the reason it was written in that position is because, at the time, I didn't feel very comfortable in the higher positions! :)

  • I see a modern paganini masael! Very unique powerful composition! Wow wow wow!!! Are you composing others in similar powerful fashion? Would love to hear more of your music. Been listening to vg12345 for years. One of my favorite pieces of all violin music.

  • @Jtrevinoaff Thank you very much for the compliment! I am definitely far away from a modern Paganini but it means a lot to me. :)

I am currently working on some other compositions that are powerful but not in as much of an aggressive way. I'm composing a symphony as a project for attaining my Master's degree so that is where most of my composition is focused on right now. More solo violin stuff will come after that. xD Thanks for enjoying my piece! I hope to post more violin vids up soon!

  • You should really transcribe this for Viola.

  • @cooldrawings1 I think that's pretty easy as I would just have to drop everything a fifth. Instead of G minor, the piece would be in C minor. Let me run through it on my viola and see how it sounds.
