Ohio Express and the 1910 Fruitgum Co. were two of the leading late-'60s bubblegum rock groups. Under the aegis of producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz, both of these rather anonymous bands surfaced repeatedly on the late-'60s pop charts for Buddah Records, spearheading the bubblegum rock craze. With Joey Levine taking the vocals on their early hits, The Ohio Express roared up in 1968 with "Yummy Yummy Yummy" and "Chewy Chewy," a pair of million-sellers. Future 10CC leader Graham Gouldman fronted the Express on their final chart bow in 1969, "Sausalito (Is the Place to Go)."
At the same time, another Kasenetz-Katz discovery, New Jersey's 1910 Fruitgum Co., was bubbling over with the obnoxiously catchy "Simon Says," "1, 2, 3, Red Light," and "Indian Giver," another gold record triumvirate. Like their labelmates, their mercurial chart run was history before 1969 was over.

"Yummy Yummy Yummy" is a bubblegum pop song by Arthur Resnick and Joey Levine, first recorded by Ohio Express in 1968. Their version reached #4 in the U.S. Pop Singles chart and #5 in the UK Singles Chart. It has since been covered by many artists. Ohio Express was a studio concoction, and none of the "official" members appear on the record. Joey Levine sang lead vocals.
Joey Levine sang "Yummy Yummy Yummy" live for the first time ever in Henderson, Tennessee at the Caravan Of Stars XV, on May 17, 2008.
The song was covered by 1910 Fruitgum Company on the 1968 album 1, 2, 3, Red Light. Julie London recorded the song as the title track for her 1969 album. An instrumental version of the song, played on a Moog synthesizer, was featured on the 1969 album entitled The Moog Machine - Switched-On Rock. Other cover versions were recorded by The Residents on The Third Reich 'n Roll (1976), Spanish disco group Baccara on their 1978 album Light My Fire, rockabilly band Elvis Hitler on their 1992 album Supersadomasochisticexpialidocious, and experimental rock band Tub Ring on their 1995 album ...And the Mashed Potato Mountain Etiquette.
The song was performed live by the all-female punk rock band L7.

This song must be recorded in the end of the 60s. i have never been listening to OE before but this will not be the last time. My hobby is to "find" different kinds of rock bands from the 60s. It´s very interesting. Listen for example to THE ZETTLERS and their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah" from 1965. I´m totally knocked!!! A 4-channel tape recorde. But hello!!!

Strange that for the derision people heaped on this genere of music at the time there is not much that makes feel like stopping my car and dancing in the road now than a good old bubble gum song. Just something uncomplicated and innocent about the whole thing. Love it.
