McCarthy claimed that there were 100s of Soviet Agents through out the Govt. He got this

idea from J Edgar Hoover who knew. As it turned out when the Soviet Arvhives were opened 50 years

later...there were 100s of Soviet Agents in the US Govt.

There weren't any witches and those people were unjustly persecuted. The US govt and its agencies were choc full of Soviet agents and fellow travelers. This is not "opinion", but fact, established in govt documents and from Soviet intelligence sources The 2 situations were quite different. People have been misled about this for 60 years.

the point about McCarthy is not that he is right or wrong. the point is he destroyed freedom in his effort to defend it. He ignored constitutional rights and tared all democrats with the brush of communists. Even though he was corrected what he did and how he did it was wrong. that being said i like the possibility that Obama might be a 2nd generation sleeper agent bent on making the us communist it fits so well!.
