Riding the large freight elevator at the Art Building. The capacity of 9000 lbs. is interesting, since it's rarely used anymore. See Main Elevator for Specifications.

  • other than the deeper car, I don't think I could identify this as a freight elevator without looking at the capacity rating.

  • Well, this is a freight elevator, because of the deep car and the capacity rating.

  • Yes, and it's rather interesting.

  • I know, but both Kone and ThyssenKrupp use Epco fixtures, and similar cab designs.

  • I guess this has lots of insulation to quiet the sound, and because of its capacity, this elevator uses a dry power unit.

  • Really, that's very interesting.

  • Even though it is a nice elevator. I don't think it is a freight elevator.

  • Cool Elevator. I Like The Bell and how the Indicator Works.

  • The Hall Lantern flashes at every beat when chiming.

  • This is not the ThyssenKrupp elevator, but it is Kone.

  • The propulsion drive is a bit quiet for an elevator with an American hydraulic propulsion design.
