نسبه الكامل : محمد بن سعود بن محمد بن مقرن بن مرخان بن إبراهيم بن موسى بن ربيعه بن مانع بن ربيعه المريدي الدرعي العدناني .
يعتبر مؤسس الدولة السعودية الأولى (تسمى العائلة بآل سعود نسبة إلى والده الأمير سعود بن محمد بن مقرن). انطلق محمد بن سعود من مدينة الدرعية (المنطقة الوسطى بجانب مدينة الرياض العاصمة الحالية). التقى بامحمد بن عبد الوهاب والذي كان يطلب الحماية من الامام محمد بن سعود. توافق الاثنان على كثير من الامور واتفقا على اقامة دولة . ولتأكيد الصلة بينهما تزوج ابن محمد بن سعود بإبنة محمد بن عبد الوهاب.
توفي في عام 1179 هـ/1765 م فخلفه ابنه الامام عبد العزيز بن محمد بن سعود.
