Gunn's flare gun remark reminds me of pretty much every scene with Brick from The Anchorman... "I killed a guy with a trident," i.e.

Best score of Clint Mansell's. And that is due to the wonderful orchestrations and conducting by Nicholas Dodd. He has that sound you find in everyone of his scores for David Arnold and James Horner's Avatar.

I love the music in this movie, and especially in this scene. It's amazing. Should try to find the soundtrack.

@JammingDrummer I tend to think of giordino as a bit shorter and a having more muscle in the upper arms and around the chest, but i havent read a dirk novel in a while, I've been reading more of Clive's Kurt Austin series
-
@ZanderTHV giordinos height was correct and muscle is almost correct but u r right hair color way off.
-
@HuntonGeeza Thanks for that. I was wondering what type it was. And yeah, what a waste of such a beauty.

@drevar Oh I agree, the buddy dynamic/banter was spot on.
Giordino's character casting was waaay off in this movie, he was supposed to be a shorter swarthy barrel chested italian guy with black hair. Dirk's wasn't that bad and neither was Sandecker's though.

I disagree and I'm also a big fan of the books. Yes, his physical appearance didn't match up with how he was portrayed in the books, but his character was spot on and Steve Zahn did a marvelous job of conveying the essence of Giordino and the buddy-dynamic and chemistry between Al and Dirk. Just because he didn't *look* like Cussler has written him, doesn't mean that the casting of Zahn was off. I actually became fan of the books because of Al & Dirk in the movie ;-)

@drevar Yes, but you didn't have 20 books of imagery when you saw the movie!

No, but afterwards when I did start reading the books I didn't saw Zahn as Al :-) I see Al as Al is described, but with the same personality and banter as he had in the movie. For me, it's still the same character. I don't see Macy as Sandecker or McConaughey as Pitt, but when watching the film I'm still perfectly fine with seeing them portraying these characters. A silverscreen transition requires adaptation, basically making it a different product. To this end, Zahn was a good fit.
