@SharedJoy Funny, anyone who befriended blacks in the south pre-civil war era was considered a traitor. Anyone who didn't exterminate Jews when ordered to in Nazi Germany was considered a traitor. Who betrayed whom? If you kick a loyal dog enough times, it will bite. Is that traitorous? When Japan invaded China and Southeast Asia and started raping and pillaging, were those who refused orders traitors? Morality is relativistic; atrocities are committed by absolutionists.
I had a chance to speak directly with Khidhir Hamza after he defected (In charge of Saddam's nuclear enrichment). 1) Israeli intelligence murdered every single scientist that worked for him as they were traveling in Europe. Each case was poisoning at a restaurant by a waiter. 2) A blond CIA agent approached Hamza in broad daylight in Baghdad and offered him asylum. He was very clear that they would make arrangements to remove his entire family. Hence I believe Amiri was indeed kidnapped.
One way or another I just feel sorry for him. He chose the wrong line of work to go into. The guy has a family....but we'll probably never know the real truth.
@HereMikeWas Pahlevuni obviously knows more about the culture than you do, and the comments that you're making just make you seem ignorant and close minded. I actually don't think that you understand anything about the Middle East besides what the media chooses to show you, and what they show is inherently going to be biased. Those 12 years of "experience" that you have over Pahlevuni clearly failed to educate you in multiple sectors. Iranians have some of the best cultural/moral foundations.
If it was a deal... why not take the whole family to Medina? Im sure the US would have been happy to take them along as well. It would have been well worth the information. Why would he leave his family knowing he might not return to them. Now the US government says he's concerned about them?
