I too just bought the bike from Performance Bikes for $999. With the card, I got double the points so I got 200 points/dollars to spend and bought pedals, biking shoes and a jersey.

@AceFuzion I bought a Forte M1 pedal. One side has a small clip that you can use for cycling shoes.

If you're going to wait on the shoes until you get more serious, I recommend getting the toe clips at least to help you learn to pedal 360 degrees and so your leg doesn't get tired too quickly. It's pretty cheap like 5 dollars.
