@krenim786 I think there really needs to be a revival with flying boats in the maritime patrol role, plus designs used for such could be used for search and rescue as well as electronic surveillance, and have all the safety of using water as a runway in case of an emergency.

@krenim786 When flying for hours over water, it's good to have redundancy in case of an engine failure. Just about all maritime patrol aircraft have 4 engines, though the new 737 based E-8 replacing the US Navy's P-3s have only two. I think the US Navy would've been much better off developing a new aircraft all together, maybe a revived Martin P6M Sea Master design, with insane speed and dash capabilities, but using modern engine technology, perhaps PW F135s?

What a beautiful engine sound...

thats what i said this all depend on money spent on development,as of now there are tu204,tu334 are available for export but no one buy them, western engines can be fitted on il96 but it never fructify
no one bought AN70 in europe they built their own costly A400 although AN70 was equally good
so main problem is that no one is there to order huge numbers of russina built airliners
so no order no further developemnt

yes ps90a is decently comparable to western engines of the early 90s but falls well short of sfc and maintenance costs of trent and p&W And ge widebody engines which is why no one including aerofloat buys il-96 even though it was a decent airframe.
only iran buys russia planes due to sanctions
russians are a decade behind the west in material sciences which is why at core temperatures required for a given sfc target the engines will almost certainly wear out more thus cost more in maintenance.

no the ps90a is very good and reliable, but all depend on development cost ,this very engine supposed to have various western companents making it equally good but again due to east west tensions it was not fruitful
development cost of western engines soar sky so better product compared to russian engines
just see engines in an124 there are 4 d18t engines of 52000 lbs thrust and still can haul 150 tons,so 208000lbs thrust drags 150 tons
CX HAS 120000 lbs thrust drags only 37 tons

good video

THE reason it has 4 jets btw is because they are 100% MADE IN Japan. The IHI F710.very impressive achievement by Japan.Only us and uk make complete jet engines.france snecma and germany mtu are leading sub assemblers.Russian engines are at least a decade behind in terms of fuel efficiency, maintenance cost etc.

why 4 engines on a jet smaller than a 7
