Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters for the SNES is a highly underrated fighting game. Yes, it is a Street Fighter II clone, but unlike many of the ones that came out in the early/mid-90's, this was definitely one of the better ones. The game was also released on the NES and Genesis, but all three versions are completely different, and the SNES version is definitely the superior one.

This is a playthrough of the Tournament mode (basically Arcade Mode) using Raphael, who has always been my favorite Turtle.

First match, vs. Wingnut:
I'm sure most viewers won't recognize this guy. I'll be honest; before playing this game, I had no idea who Wingnut was either. He wasn't too difficult here, although in Round 2, I won by a hair.

Second match, vs. Michelangelo:
In my opinion, Michelangelo is the best of the Turtles in this game. With that said, he is one of the more tough opponents too. I won what was an insanely close set of matches.

Third match, vs. Chrome Dome:
I think Chrome Dome is annoying. He's not too difficult to beat, but he usually puts up a good fight. In Round 2, I had to keep hitting him to build up my Special, and I used that to finish him off.

Fourth match, vs. Leonardo:
If you hate fighting Ryu/Ken, you'll hate fighting Leonardo, because he is very similar to them in terms of their move sets. Thankfully, his Shining Cutter has slow start up, so if you time a jumping attack right, you can hit him before he hits you with his Roto Cutter (his anti-air attack).

  • hey bro how do you do the specials, i forgot bro and im playing this game right now no lie about that

i need to remember the moves and shit

  • @PERROSKI323 You have to hit the Hard Punch + Hard Kick buttons at the same time when your special meter is filled and flashing. I think the default buttons for that are X+A.

  • Pretty cool game. I see the resemblance to SF II. Did Mike just shoot a fireball from his mouth? Wtf lol. I think I heard him say dragon breath. Must be from all those pepperoni pizzas he eats lol. Even the bonus rounds are very similar to SF II lol.

  • Indeed, his projectile comes from his mouth, and it is called Dragon Breath. I think your explanation of its origin seems really likely, LOL.

And yes, the bonus round is pretty much a copy of the brick-breaking bonus round from Street Fighter II.

  • Wow, you're right. That is a really obvious SFII clone. They even copied most of the moves.

  • to this day , I still do not know that they chose the name Jamboree for one of his moves. Aw well sounds good when he does it

  • One hard game

  • i love donatelllo''s ultimate attack move when he summons a dragon spirit, CLASSIC

  • i got this game back in April of 1994. I admit i got bored of it by june of 1994. But many years later, i played it again n it was no longer boring, cuse it just brought back too many memories, plus with the code to make this game play faster, i never knew about the code back in 1994, but once i got that code combined with the memories, this game became a personal classic timeless for me.

  • I loved this game growing up. Don and Leo were my characters

  • I miss this game. I use Raph, and beat the game on hard. My favorite moment, playing with the Game Genie added.

  • @MrInfamous1984 Yeah it is. I have no idea why Konami put out such a weak version for the MD. Yes it would never have had the level of colour or sound from the SNES version but it could have had all of the gameplay.

  • I'm normally a Sega fanboy, but this one is the most suprerior.

  • I thought I remembered some butterfly chick in one of these fighting games.. its been bugging me
