Stockport College: Bulgarian Fireworks!

At the end of May 2011 a group of students from Stockport College went to Vratsa, Bulgaria on an International Exchange Project. Funded by Youth In Action, we experienced a new culture, cuisine and met some fantastic people! This video was taken on the fourth night of six, in celebration of Botev, a revolutionary and a poet. It was a Firework and Gun show to commemorate his death. We are now raising money to bring the Bulgarians over here in October :)
The British Council is the UK's National Agency for Youth in Action (2007-2013), the European Programme set-up for young people.
Some programme objectives of Youth In Action are:
- Promotion and development of young people's active citizenship
- Solidarity and social cohesion
- Development and promotion of quality support systems and Europe-wide co-operation.
Through this the group of students from Stockport College recieved Youth Passes and experienced first hand what it was like to live in another country's culture. Learning a new language are just some of the many experiences we befitted from. Most of the students from this project have now graduated from Stockport College but are still going to be in the Hosting Event we are doing in October. The aim of the Bulgarian Project was Tolerence through Sport and Outdoor Activities. The aim for our hosting will be Challenging Discrimination. As part of Youth in Action Projects we have to have aims for the different projects we have.
