My original source fed me information about the rear loaders for the region being Heils. So it was a bit of a surprise to see one of these new MacDonald Johnstons upon arrival that first Thursday morning. You would expect these trucks would only be used on units and clean-up, but I actually found the truck collecting the garbage in a regular neighbourhood filled with houses... might have been a run not covered by a side loader at the time?

On my second visit I got a look at one of the Heil Powertraks with a couple of guys cruising on the back, but I'm pretty sure they were also servicing houses like in this video. I'm told the rear loaders are only used for clean-up and bulk bins from the larger apartments now. Also have to say that these trucks are pretty dull if no signage has been thrown on since I was there; nothing really there to spice up the appearance hey? Cheers to the friendly team, I hope you enjoy the footage of RL18 and look out for the other three Kogarah videos...

Body Make: MacDonald Johnston

  • Wow just in a normal neighborhood huh...definitely a bit slower than using an ASL haha but still entertaining!! Truck seemed kinda lazy, wonder if that contributed to the drivers taking their time a bit too..thanks for the post!

  • @Trashman242 I bet the truck was loving this easy work; cruising along at low RPMs, lifting a handful of bins with no strain on the packer... then the next day it was probably used on bulk lol

  • Nice footage mate! Unusual but pleasant to see a good RL collecting from what'd usually be 'ASL Territory'. Have to say though, either the loader is a newbie or they've got a small route to follow so they're not working 'flat-out', so slllooowwww, even when I'm loading on my own I go quicker than that, lol

  • If these blokes want to finish up early, they can forget about it.

  • Nice!!!

  • Nice Catch! Unusual to see a RL collecting in just a normal residental area. I guess it gives you a slight feel from back in the good old days =D.

  • ummmmm, lmao how slow man.

good video and very nice truck, the way these guys work its going to take ages for the truck to work in haha ;)

  • Very nice! These bins don't tip as much when at the top of the dumping cycle.

  • Awesome! I guess it's weird now to see an RL doing garbage in an "SL" like area. You guys have the friendliest drivers down there! Great job.

  • Nice vid. U would think that this truck would do units or bulk waste. But I think this vid should be rated 10 out of 10.
