During my business trip to the Island of Curacao I had a rental car. I read all the blogs where people said they were afraid to drive, traffic was bad, it was dangerous, etc, etc, ad nausium. I did not buy it and I am glad I didn't!
You cannot believe everything you read and, if you go through life being afraid you're never gonna get off the boat! When I travel, I never eat where the tourists eat or at the hotel. I never shop where the tourists shop. They go left, I go right. They ask directions, I keep on walking.
I have had 51 trips around the sun and I have traveled all over the world in those years. I have never had any trouble; and I have been to some shady places, let me tell you.
Go where the locals go, eat what the locals eat and you will meet people that may well become life long friends. I have found in my travels that people are not the problem - Governments are but, I will not discuss politics or religion here. Let's just say that if you go looking for trouble you will always find it. Act like a descent human being and you'll be ok
Anyway, climbing off my soap box now, this video is the short drive from where I was working in Williemstad, Curacao back to the Marriott Hotel and resort. It's a short drive, less than 20 minutes anytime of the day.
The island of Curacao is 8 miles across at its widest point and only 40 miles long. It is an easy island to drive and there is a lot to see. I did not have the chance to visit all the sites but hope I can go back some day to look around some more.
If you want to read up about it, here is a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cura%C3%A7ao
