No reason to hate on kipping. Of course kips require less upper-body strength than normal pull ups. They're meant to be integrated in high intensity work that privilege overall fitness rather than targeted muscle building. If your goal is to increase your upper body strength do normal pull ups.

It's just like comparing Shoulder Press to Push Press to Push Jerk. All 3 moves try to push a weight above your head but each one uses a different technique and requires different amounts of strength.

Also notice how NO military PT tests use kipping pullups. The difference is that someone who does good pullups can also do kipping pullups. The reverse is not true, as kippers aren't working out their backs, or only minimally.

This is true, and obviously in such a scenario you wouldn't give a damn about strict form. But you also want a strong back to get over that wall, and I promise you someone who does strict pullups vs someone who does kipping pullups, the strict guy is getting over that wall, and then another, and then another, while the kipper is riddled with bullets at the bottom of wall #2.

The other night I couldn't kipp up and couldn't figure out was I was doing wrong(fatigued as well) I wasn't pushing away at the top of the kip up and lowering my self due to being tired and couldn't stay in rythem. Thanks for the video. BTW I use to think Xfit was for girls until I went. Any of you meat heads wouldn't be able to finish if u went. Intensity is a whole new level u never knew about

Kip haters have to remember, Crossfit has been integrated from military workouts. The military teaches efficiency and speed, if you're trying to climb a wall to escape enemy fire are you gonna pull up with just your arms or are you going to get over it as fast as possible?

This type of pull up is more to burn fat then make the muscles grow, you should know what I mean since you run 5 miles. You don't see any 100m or 150m sprinter laughing at you for running slower to be able to run for longer.
