For many years now, samplers have given us the ability to create a digital "replica" of an actual acoustic instrument that plays and sounds just like a great recording of the instrument. Pianos are certainly one of the most replicated sampled instruments, and with the advances made in software samplers, very realistic piano sounds are now attainable. But since the first day I got my Kurzweil K2500XS sampler, I realized it was more fun and rewarding to create my own piano sounds instead of using others. Also, I couldn't ever be happy with all the other sampled pianos I heard or bought.

So here I am now starting on my 2nd software sampler piano library. I purchased Gigastudio 3 in summer of 2006 and went off to create my first piano sound with it. An older Steinway D at the University of Arkansas was the one I wanted! I finally got the piano finished in Gigastudio (only to find out Tascam was abandoning the software totally), and I've been happy with it for a while. But never to be at rest with my work, I wanted to do another piano. This time I'm doing a wonderful Kawai EX concert grand, and after I finish the Gigastudio version, I'll work on getting a Kontakt version available.

So enjoy this little demo video I created. Leave me comments... and definitely stay tuned for updates to this great sound!

  • your samples kick ass, easily better than east west

  • @2012nimrod Ha thanks! Actually it was buying the EastWest pianos and being quite disappointed that led me to create something better. Check out my other videos for hints of what's coming next (and soon).

  • is that really a digital piano sound?.....3rd time to hear a digital piano near to a sound of an acoustic piano...great brand KAWAI

  • @kamotzboyz Yes the Kawai pianos are quite nice, especially the EX concert grand! Please check out more demos on our website, and visit my channel to see/hear the completed piano.

  • I was listening to an ex pro demo song on AcousticsampleS's website and about 30 seconds into it I completely forgot I was listening to a "digital" performance. I think I just found what I want for Christmas. Great stuff Lance. I share your dismay over the lack of resonance found in most piano samples. Hopefully this software will end my search for that perfect piano sound :D I'll be playing them on a $25 kawai midi controller I found at a garage sale haha.

  • @betterfilmmaking Thanks so much for the compliments! Yes that was one of my leading motivators for creating a better piano sound: the lack of body and resonance. While many others offer a technically superb sound, they leave out the essential characteristics that gives the real piano its resonance. I hope you enjoy it! And stay tuned... big things are coming soon.

  • Hello! Great sound of Steinway d samples. Can I buy it from you?

  • Technics sampled a wonderful German Steinway and their work was lauded by the New York Times.

  • This really does sound amazing (even compressed audio). What do you think the difference is between your recordings and other sample libraries? Recording methods? Instrument?

  • This little bit sounds great! 2:49-3:05
