AVR-3 has just exited Whitehall Tunnel and crossed beneath route 51 on the haul to Bruceton. The train was about 40 cars long until the set off at Bruceton. The crew only took one GP11 into Washgton but the train still had about 10 cars. It looked like they were taking high end gons loaded with scrap from Bruceton back to Glenwood on the return trip.

  • How often does AVR run through here, and how far back is the Whitehall tunnel?

  • I have seen the AVR-3 leave as early as 11 AM from Glenwood.

For a while the train was getting into Washington fairly early.

Lately it seems to get there around 3 or so give or take and hour and depending on what work it has on the way. I have not caught the train out of Glenwood lately but my guess it;s leaving lately sometime between 12 -1.

    Usually runs Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Whitehall tunnel is just around the bend. One of 9 tunnels on the original W&P Sub.

  • Interesting. I remember when a few years ago being able to see the track bank left and there was the tunnel. Guess I was wrong. But I'll have to wait till Christmas Break for this one, thanks for the info.

  • This is taken from the bridge on Lebanon Church Road looking toward the tunnel. Value City Furniture is up on the hill to the left.
