As you mentionited that it was SAD, well it's no better in our knack of the woods. That was my whole point! I could tell you volumes about ignorance of classical music I have encountered during tthe relatively brief period of my adult life.

It wasn't before you tube and internet in general that I found more than few people(at least of my generation) who were familiar with classical music.

And, that's my whole point, you're one of them!

If so, I apologize, you missed my point, I've never implied that YOU weere unfamiliar with it, quite the opposite, it was perfectly clear you were, and I was happy to find someone like that, and then I agreed with the point you had made in this sentence "not many people know this anymore", to which I added that even in Europe(which likes to pride itself as being culturally superior to America) Ode is mostly known only as EU anthem.
