Why did Hitler lose the war? (A response to Dhorpatan)

In my opinion, Hitler lost the war because of 8 main reasons.
- point 1. He didnt allow any of his generals to execute strategic withdrawals. see manstein at kharkov, paulus at stalingrad, model in Courland, which ended up destroying his army.
- point 2. Hitler Went to war on 2 fronts and didnt resolve the british war before starting war with the Russians.
- point 3. He declared war against the US, which gave Roosevelt a free hand to send troops to europe.
- Point 4. He failed to use the initial goodwill of Ukrainians, and Baltic peoples against the Russians. if he had offered them the promise of independence for joining the fight against Russians instead of starving them to death and using them as slaves the story might have been different. However, hitlers racist ideology prevented him from ever considering such an alliance.
- point 5. Hitler was held hostage to his ideology meaning the only way to achieve his aggressive aims of conquering and enslaving Slavic peoples was through force, and could never be achieved by diplomatic means.
- Point 6. Hitler had a high risk, gamble mentality. Hitler, knowing he was outmanned, outgunned and out resourced still wanted to defeat all his enemies in quick succession and achieve his gains rapidly instead of consolidating his diplomatic gains from munich, as well as the non aggression pact with stalin and be content with just gradually increasing his influence over central and eastern europe while isolating French and british influence.
- point 7.,hitler lost the war because he was a rigid, inflexible man who towards the end of the war, possibly due to all the drugs he was taking, was non responsive in crisis situations. see Rommels request to use the reserves at Normandy during the critical early hours of invasion which went unheeded because hitler was asleep and under medication.
- Point 8. Lastly, hitler lost the war because he was overly ambitious. He split his army group south in two in order to conquer Stalingrad and the oil rich Caucasus instead of keeping them united and being assured of accomplishing one of the two objectives.

Ultimately hitlers high risk high reward gamble was unlikely from the start, something he even recognized at the start but hitler believed he was chosen by fate to accomplish his mission and he never heeded the limitations of reality. Like most fanatics, be they religious, political or military he met his fate once the scales of illusion fell and reality became apparent albeit only after causing millions of deaths and innumerable destruction to many peoples.

Hitler also didn't show the military wrong with the fall of France, as France fell more because the French didn't want to fight, then because of any brilliant decisions Hitler made.

the brilliant decision i referred was von manstein's sickle plan of invading through the ardennes. when manstein proposed this same plan earlier the army chiefs deemed it radical and didnt even allow him to take part in the french campaign. when hitler was presetned with the plan he overrode the chiefs who had the same misgivings. you're right about the french - the right and left wings were more at war w/ each other than with the germans.

This was a very informative video, but I have some objections. Hitler didn't prove the military wrong with the Sudeten crisis. It was indeed reasonable for them to think such an act would provoke war. Hitler lucked up from the fact that the Allies didn't want war, and tried to avoid it as much as they could.

i meant he proved the military (i.e. ludwig beck's opposition group) wrong because no war took place.

@Dhorpatan Well, it is not that clear. According to Basil Liddel Hart (1971), Hitler did have a discussion with Rundstedt (24.V.1940). Rundstedt was a cautious strategist, worried about the german northern and southern flank. You must not forget: German fought with the French army for four years in the Great War and nobody could believe it would be that "easy" at that time. They did not have the knowledge we do have today. Hitler therefore "agreed" with Rundstend's advices.

Regarding your Stalingrad point: Stalingrad was an important city with many production facilities, tank factories etc., but it would be wiser not to attack it frontally and to cross the river somewhere else (to cut off the supplies running from the east). Also: one of the main advantages of the Wehrmacht was its ability to improvise, to lead a mobile warfare (indirect approach doctrine) etc. Hitler's decision to attack St. frontally allowed Soviets to concentrate their forces...

Nice video - thank you very much. I have one objection: Hitler stopped his armies at Dunkirk but probably not because of the impending Russian invasion (Russian army was still in its reorganisation phase) but rather because he needed the troops for the rest of the French campaign (the French still had a significant number of troops available, although their morale was poor at that time, I would say). I fully agree with your second point (about wanting to close peace with the Brits).
