Running our 3-1/2" gauge CPR Hudson live steam locomotive at the Golden Horseshoe Live Steamers track in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

Boiler, cylinder block & wheel castings were commercial items, the rest is custom machined.

The loco is a great runner, and includes functional steam turbogenerator with (bright!) headlight and cab lights, working duplex boiler feed pump, and steam-operated locomotive brakes.

If you have the room, equipment, time, and money, 15" gauge is nice.

I've driven 7-1/2" gauge also and prefer 3-3/4 gauge because the perception of speed is greater even though both scales may travel the same speed.

For serious passenger hauling 7-1/2" and up is indeed preferable but, the anti-tipping rail (in yellow in the video) does a great job in preventing serious derailments of the riding cars.

  • Looks cool but I'm sticking with 15 gauge.

We certainly are planning to attend those festivities! We would not want to miss your hospitality, camaraderie, and good fellowship for any reason.

  • Hi Wolfgang,

No. 2888 is running well. Looks like she'll be ready for paint soon. Hope to see you again in July.
