Super Mario Bros compressed down to just 64 Pixels! (well sort of...)

I have attempted to create a game similar to the 1985 Nintendo Classic - Super Mario Bros. Although in my version it is alot more pixelated.

  • The comic sans font ruined the entire video for me.

  • Wow really? You feel that strongly about a font? If I could ask you this - Let's say you were getting married and your wife to be had all of the place cards for the reception made up with comic sans as the font. Would this ruin your wedding day? Or perhaps you had just had your first child and someone sent you a congratulations card with comic sans font on it - would that ruin the moment? Where do you draw the line between where a font ruins something and where it doesn't?

  • Yep it sure was = ) but if you read through her description, you will find that she got the idea from me in my version I made nearly three years ago. Having said that, I did get the idea from Nintendo...

  • can you sell ones programmedalready and just need soldering ?

  • Awesome

  • Is their a way to use a PICAXE to do the same job.

  • Disregard that comment! I simply had it in backwards like an idiot, though I am planning to make a video response to show it off. There are some rows that are missing but I am far from picky, this was the exact project I needed, thank you for all your help.

  • Yeah as I said I am using the Pickit 3, it doesn't auto detect the chip, which isnt a problem, I just pick the correct one, though I am getting a message "Unknown device detected" and then just stops.Any thoughts? I would normally not do this on the youtube comments page so sorry about this, but I was really worried after I had to hard wire one of the pins. Thank you though once again, and if all goes correctly I will be making a video response.

  • I use the pickit 2 which has the same pinout as the pickit 3. The numbers on the back of the circuit board correspond to the numbers on the pickit 3. (Pin 1 on the pickit 3 is the one with the triangle) You don't need to connect pin 6 (which is the aux connection) You plug the pickit 3 into you USB port, then connect it to your circuit board and then load up the pickit software and it should detect that a pickit is connected. Open up the hex file and click the write button. That's it!

  • Thanks! Now there is only one issue that I am facing which is how to upload the .HEX to the 18F4550, so I was just wondering if I am doing this right since this is my first project dealing with pic. So I currently am using PICKIT3 to write the code to the chip but nothing is showing on either screens, but I ran into the problem of the 5 pin ICSP on the board, and the 6 pin PICKIT 3, so I was wondering is there any leads I dont have to care about. How exactly did you upload your HEX?

  • can you play tetris on it?

  • You will most probably get random results on the screen without having the microcontroller programmed. So it sounds quite normal so far. Once programmed it should come good for you.

  • So I was a bit happy about that, but when I turned it off and on, the RGB didnt re-appear, and when it did the first time, it was only half of the screen. SO is this just a matter of uploading the code, or is this a hardware problem, since I did have some complications in building and had to hard wire a lead due to a slight miss-hap durring soldering wherea connection was broken. But still I did the hard wire and made sure it was the correct pins. Any thoughts?
