Dingerein Castle Hill Fort Cornwall

This hill fort was once the seat of the "King Of Cornwall" according to tradition and ancient accounts. It is situated on the eastern side of the A3078 near Gerrans village Cornwall.
The fort is mentioned in various histories of old Cornwall such as Leyland
.." About a myle by west of Fenare is a force (or strong hold) nere the shore, in the paroch of S. Gerons. It is single dikyed, and within a but shot of the north side of the same, apperith an hole of a vault, broken up by a plough in tylling. This vault had an issue from the castelle to the se; and a little by north of the castelle are a 4 or 5 borowes or cast hi lies."
Dave has composed a rather lovely haunting and sad piece for this movie as it is a shame that the fort is now more or less gone.Still the parish church of St. Gerrans is dedicated to him,so all is not forgotten.

A favourite Saint of mine, King Geraint,, hope you visited the church too. There is not much evidence to suggest that this was Geraint's stronghold, there is a place nearby called Tregaire, which historians say is where Geraint had his fort. Hope you enjoyed your visit here, my favourite part of Cornwall other than the Amble/St Kew area. History seaps out of every hedge.
