Artist Dean Goelz is well known for his avian-influenced sculptures at the Williamsburg gallery Like the Spice, an amalgam of human-bird hybrids trapped in these strange bodies, reaching out for acceptance and love not unlike Jeff Goldblum in "The Fly." In the case of Escape From New York, he's taking a sledgehammer to the show's title and absolutely destroying me by truly getting each of its references. From the Wall Street fat cats who are "too big to fail," dictating the entire trajectory of the U.S. economy, to the own references of escaping-- wanting to become someone else, somewhere else, and taking a literal leap from the rafters. Watch as Goelz and Lambert discuss their own appreciation of these very under-appreciated birds and his artistic process. A fine feathered friend indeed.
