Our typical, end of terrace, Victorian, redbrick house was built in 1901 with brick from the Stonehouse brickworks.

When we moved in in 2001, we had a new kitchen fitted and replaced the aluminium windows with double glazed wooden sash. We have also had various rooms replastered.

However, after living here for a few years, it became obvious that the house is poorly insulated. The walls were always cold, condensation was a problem in the kitchen and the central heating took a long time to warm the house fully.

We decided to put some internal, solid wall insulation on the external walls of the dining room and the kitchen. We also had an extractor fan fitted in the kitchen to deal with some of the steam from cooking.
