Like last year, a video providing the view from my 9th-floor balcony as the neighborhood erupts in an anarchist frenzy of illegal aerial fireworks and improvised bombs. 12/31/10 was the last day that most forms of legal fireworks may be used, as a new county law prohibits them pretty much altogether as of 1/2011. I doubt that the ban will have any effect, especially since all the aerial fireworks in this video are already illegal. That is, if the ban is not overturned before next year by the timid county council.

Instead of the ban on firecrackers, what is needed is active interdiction at the ports, and aggressive prosecution of traffickers and of those who launch aerials and detonate improvised bombs (which happens from Halloween until well past January 1). My pet could be sedated to get through one night of "traditional" firecrackers and "cultural" celebration. However, I refuse to sedate my dog for 2 months! Because of the law enforcement failure, my dog is a nervous wreck every evening for the final months of every year, because at any time, on any day, an aerial or improvised BOMB might go off. It's completely unacceptable.

Also, check out these videos:

  • Lite it up.

  • I remember when I was walking with few my friends at there house in waipahu across the bridge by 7 eleven and, that huge explosion on the road by us in 2 feet away felt the motion and my ear felt nnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeee like that lol. I thought I amost die those crazy filipinos neighbors are insane.

  • why cant wars be like this?

  • That's crazy.

  • I'm sorry that your dog is terrorized over an extended amount of time by those cretins but know that many of your immediate neighbors who have lived in the area for close to 45 years follow and respect the firework laws as they allow. If it's any consolation, it was a pretty mirthless New Years welcoming by old Waipahu standards for sure.
