My best friend's been a code monkey at times... but he has also had exciting jobs where coding was fun and he couldn't stop talking about what he was doing (even though I basically couldn't understand him *lol*). Go for what you love doing--just keep in mind that where you work, what you're doing, and with whom you're working will have a lot of influence on how happy you are with your chosen profession. Having a manager like Rob is always depressing, and you can run into those types in any job!
