  • @rharris786 no he used a boiling tube. test tubes are narrower so make a stronger pop.

  • i'm doing the same stuff at school at the moment and to get a better pop, get two test tubes, put the hydrochloric acid in one with the magnesium strip and put the other test tube over the top. Use ur fingers as a seal round the lips of the test tubes so no gas can escape. Shake it up a bit. When you have done that get a match or a lit splint and release the test tube from the other one and quickly put the match inside and u should get a good pop. try this and hope it works :)

  • Let me give you an advice, turning the tube upside down makes it easy to let the hydrogen react with oxigen. you will lose minimal hydrogen with this method. Hydrogen is the lightest gass on our plannet so it will move up. If you put your tube upside down they hydrogen can get away.
