Yes, it's unfortunate the excellent Leroy King and the Students didn't last. To this NYC native, the group produced songs just as good if not superior to those made by the more heralded Frankie Lymon. The Students issued four songs long considered doo wop classics in their own right--I'm So Young; That's How I Feel; Everyday of the Week; and My Vow. Together, they demonstrate the group's ability to handle slow and fast material with ease.

In those great day's of the late 50's, and early 60's, there were many great sounds, and songs made by the Students, and many other great group's got lost in the shuffle. However, that was until YouTube arrived, and all can enjoy Doo-Wop the greatest sounding music to one's ear. The only downer on earth is that many of the "kid's" who sang these great sounds are up in heaven singing for eternity, and believe me they are known by every one. The dear Lord is the master of ceremonies.

@bunsterx1 .....Right on Target.....SO YOUNG one of the best songs ever made and MY VOW TO YOU probably the best ever cut.....I'm sooooo pissed off that the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME never recognized these great groups....there a farce, and to say a group was only a 1 hit wonder may be true but its an insult to millions of us who love those 1 hits like FLORENCE, THE WIND, THE CLOSER YOU ARE, ETC.....take MY DESIREE by Charts, everyone remembers when they first heard that song !

Terrific posts by everyone here. I loved The Students. Every Day of the Week is the song that turned me on to this whole genre of music. I heard it in November, 1972, on Little Walter's Time Machine out of Boston. There is so much going on in that song (lead , backup vocals, etc.). I said to myself, this is only the tip of the ice berg for this type of music---and I was so right. I am still hearing new stuff:) So salute to them, and to those of us that carry on the sound.

Everything said below this is right-on, The Students were one of the best teen-age groups that ever made a record, if their not the best then who is. ?

@stripemister That would be great. it's amazing how groups got together with little or no management and made hits then to just disappear. I think some singers floated around and filled in where they could in other groups. I guess you yopu walk in off the street cut a record and begged a DJ to play it. Oh well

@blinko656 I hope Leroy King daughter realize that her Dad, and the rest of the Student's are FOREVER part of history. 100 years from now a high school senior may be ask to do a book report on music from the 1950's, and that "student" just may pick "The Student's." Wouldn't that be great??

@bunsterx1 And, handle they could. What a great, great talent. And, to think they were oh "So Young."
chess, there is a vocal doo wop group from Florida. The female leader sing is Lola and the group is Lola and the Saints. Her cover of the song "So Young" is really good. I will send you the link.
