In May 2005, a new and innovative project was carried out at Mayfair Park Estate. Residents, both young and old, worked hand in hand to create beautiful roadside gardens to spruce up their estate under the Community In Bloom programme. This project was the start of many others, which, together, contribute to the unique green ambience of Singapore. Today, there are about 300 active gardening groups throughout Singapore. Gardens, consisting of flowers, herbs, spices or even vegetables, can be found in public and private housing estates, schools as well as other organisations, such as hospitals and welfare homes.
