It was a fishers of men tournament. It is a church run event. So I assume the members of churches don't really mind the prayers.

Why do you have to say a prayer first? Is fishing only for folks that choose to believe in god or your religion? It would be more appropriate to allow everyone to do their own prayers if they so choose. Doing it via. the loudspeaker is very tacky too.
