Autism Speaks, the nations largest autism science and advocacy organization, has launched a new national television advertising campaign highlighting private insurers blatant discrimination against children with autism and calling on Congress to put an end to it as part of the broader health care reform effort. The thirty-second ad, Neighbors, will air nationally on CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC. Learn more and TAKE ACTION at www.AutismVotes.org!

  • Autism is a medically diagnosed condition. Children with autism are entitled to any and all medical care--both conventional and unconventional--that their parents can find for them. When my daughter was about five, we were blessed with a modest inheritance that allowed us to work with a physician (MD) who was innovative and caring -- but not covered by insurance. I am convinced to this day that the two years she was under Dr. Hicks care made all the difference for her and for us.

We're all very glad your kid gets the help he needs. What I don't understand is why you would come here and declare that you believe it's OK to discriminate against some kids depending on "the environment".

  • child. I think you are the one with the emotional problems. You are b!*&#ing more than a female dog in heat. Your child can have worse things, you know.

  • @Taraterm,

Wow. You've done it again. I can't believe you. Just because you have a child on the severe side, doesn't mean you can judge people you don't know who's autistic or not. You have the nerve to call us "weird weirdoes with emotional problems." You know, there are plenty of parents out there that would love to replace autism with their child dying from leukemia any day. So, don't try to make a pissing contest about who has it better and who has it worse when raising an autistic cont.

  • I want world war 3 to happen It's time kill

  • So much that is wrong with what this video is suggesting about autism, it makes my head spin.

  • @taraterm2: Goodness. For a person with an autistic child, you seem like the most ignorant. They are not retarded first of all, second of all, you seem to despise your child. Instead of focusing on the negative, why don't you be a fucking parent and be positive. You stupid bitch.

  • @Taraterm2 Let us pray that your eyes be opened before it is too late. With this attitude, you are selling short your son's future. He needs a dad who will go to bat for him, not one who buys into the "pitiful creature" attitude which is prevalent amongst Autism Speaks believers towards autistic persons (adult or children). For advice on how to be a supportive dad, read "Reasonable People" by Ralph Savarese. Yes, I do have autism. It is not a fast-spreading disease, nor a curse.

  • @munsterhunter92 I never said autistics cannot be highly intelligent. {You obviously have trouble with reading comprehension.}But they cannot express themselves in flawless English on the internet. Sorry. They just can't. But then, with everyone and his brother being diagnosed as autistic these days it's hard to tell what's going on.

For the record, I'm pretty darn smart. And yes, I work with autistic chioldren and have an autistic son.

  • @Taraterm2 hey me again i saw something you wrote to somebody it makes me think about YOUR intelligence ok here is what is wrong you said:autistic people cant be highly intelligent yeah im afraid your highly wrong about that because albert einstein was a bit autistic and yet HE created the law of physics so yeah
