This is a 6 minute video showing pruning a neglected cherry tree to reduce it's height from 20 feet tall to 10 feet tall. It is a rather severe pruning that was done to make the tree more manageable. With the best cherries growing near the top of the tree we tended to get very few of them even in years with a good crop. The tree is semi-dwarf about twenty five years old and was not pruned for about ten years. That resulted in it growing too tall.

  • Thanks a lot! The best advice that I got from youtube!

  • Man, thank you for this.. You gotta love youtube. Can literally search for anything..

  • Hi, A lot of the videos on cherry tree pruning show only central leaders but they are on gisela root stock. Yours looks more like the shape of an apple tree in an orchard. Does the root stock dictate how to shape a cherry tree?

  • Hi, Nice video. What did you use for sterilization, alcohol? I'm in MA, can I prune as long as the buds haven't broken yet? My tree are only 2 years old but about 15ft high.
