I believe this combo I've developed is your absolute best-bet for a (mostly) meterless bread and butter with Kyo. It works almost anywhere on the screen, can be started from a super jump's distance away, is very consistent once you get the rhythm down, and leaves the opponent cornered, in a reset state they can't tech roll out of, and with only 1 point of stun remaining (assuming they were absolutely full to start). To make matters even better, it builds about 2.15 super bars (notice that I start the video empty).

Leaving the opponent with 1 point of stun and in such a compromised position is in many ways superior to a full dizzy combo. They have to avoid getting poked even a single time in the next several seconds, or they're going to eat a full combo with only a single hit of damage scaling applied. It's highly unlikely they're getting out alive considering the reset leaves you at such a massive frame advantage that you can set up really any kind of 50/50 you want, and lead into a combo that spends your newly acquired super.

If you'd like to learn how to perform this in more detail, look for my upcoming tutorial series! This will be one of the combos covered.

Requirements:
68% drive
Opponent must be within around 60% of a stage from the corner

Features:
Starts from an overhead
Can start from a crossup
Failing to combo the second d+C results in a safe overhead crossup
Safe and extremely long hit confirmation
Standing A can be omitted for much easier execution at only a minimal stun loss (leaves opponent at 4)
Resets opponent
Leads into a mixup
119 stun damage
Builds 2.15 super bars
Does not depend on character size (not tested on everyone)
Console version only

Performed on PS3 using a Hit Box controller with no tool assistance

  • can someone confirm if you can rdp+B with delay after the first cancel... i've been doing this fine but for some reason it no longer connects. i'm playing ps3.

  • @grygierpeps IIRC the rdp+B I mention as requiring a small delay (the second one) is the only one that you can delay and still have the height you need to finish.

  • jajajajaj thats good X)

  • @fuckyoucibaikia If there's any air recovery in XIII whatsoever it's news to me.

  • @SFtheWolf Question. Is there anyway you can air recover from kyo's juggle by pressing AB? How does air recovery work in XIII?

  • @goulter1985 That's a good point.

  • @SFtheWolf Not that Im a fan of mashing, and I havnt played KOF a whole lot. But I find pressing twice for certain combos (not mashing exactly) helps a bit. Sorta like double tapping in SFIV

  • @WerdyA Firstly, if you're mashing out each button, try to get out of that habit as it will make things way harder for you in the long run. Make sure you're pressing one button per attack.

Secondly try doing the St.Lk slightly early and holding the button. Don't worry about the run grab, just see first if you can get this 3 hit combo. This game's input buffer is such that you get a 5 frame window where if you hold the button briefly, the move will come out on the first frame possible.

  • @SFtheWolf Well after the the 2 Cr.Lk the St.Lk get's blocked and the Run grab whiffs. The Combos are so hard to link in this game.

  • @WerdyA Where in the combo do you find you mess up the most? Maybe I could help.
