The $365 retort kiln - pyrolysis

We finally achieve pyrolysis with this homemade retort kiln.

The bottom pipe is about 3 feet long, capped on the end with a circle of 1/8" metal tacked on. The holes are about a 3 inch spacing, a 7/16th inch drill bit. The holes don't go all the way back to the elbow, but rather just beneath the drum. The pipe was 2 inch dia. thinwall irrigation pipe, but you could purchase 2" muffler pipe, or chain link fence post pipe, and maybe even have the muffler guy form radiused bends in it (rather than miter and weld the elbows)

@krystalmagic and anyone else who was wondering. This is what the old timers ran their cars on when gas was rationed. I believe you need a dryer/condenser to catch the water then straight into the engine. The remaining material is carbon and ash.

You can also bubble the gases through water to create various solvents or even add herbs like mint and make "essential oil". Not that you didn't know I just thought you were right.

So what are you using this for? Nice flame but without some additional information it's virtually meaningless to most people.

I'm trying to build something similar right now. can you tell me about the holes in the bottom pipe? how big are they, how far apart?  thank you
