  • What woke me up to precious metals true power was in 1983 or so..I was reading a book, "Passions of the Mind" by Irving Stone. The story was about Sigmund Freud's life. I remember the part of the story where Freud's father went to a secret hiding place (floor boards) to retrieve his gold; Nazis stormed Austria and paper currency was unavailable. However, Freud was able to use his precious metal to escape the country. I didnt truly appreciate that act till now it made a deep impression upon me.

  • @NAVYGOLDEIGHTFOUR Yeah, you know if I could live anywhere in the world in the next 20 or more years, New Zealand and Australia would be at the top of the list as well as parts of Asia (although NZ is prone recently to earthquakes) Australia is one of the richest resource economies in the world with amazing natural resource potential going forward.

  • @NAVYGOLDEIGHTFOUR That explains it, sounds like you are enjoying it. Let us know how Australia's economy is fairing compared to NZ, both are on my possible emigration list.

  • Similir sort of story in Canada. Our currency has mostly been free floating for the past 100 years relative to the US, but almost always devalued to be weaker than the US (to help facilitate trade)

Prior to 1966 $1 face Canadian coin contained 80% fine, 0.6 oz silver. After that, it was rapidly debased and made into nickle. Now we have monopoly money, not unlike the Australian currency.

  • Good point. Governments are about increasing their power and taking people's money. Once you understand that, you wake up pretty quick.

Gotta love those 1966 50cents. Have a couple of dozen myself. Yes, silver content was worth more than the face value so they were stopped immediately. Can't have currency with real value.

Australian and most world reserve banks are privately owned. NZ is actually government owned though.

  • YOU MEAN THE PAID OFF ELECTED POLITICAL PROSTITUTES THAT ENSURES THE GLOBAL PONZI SCHEME CARRIES ON TO ENRICH THEMSELVES AND MONEY MASTERS!

  • My Guess,...Mike was in either Germany or Austria (with the Bank Notes). I would like to know for certain too !
