FIELD OF HONOR AT MILLER PARK: 8.11.2012

This once-in-a-generation event will bring together thousands of World War II veterans and veterans from other conflicts, their families, friends and communities. The event will feature the world premier of the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight documentary on the Miller Park high-definition video board and special viewing of the official model of the WWII Memorial on loan before going to the Smithsonian.

World War II veterans are dying at the rate of 1 every 90 seconds. Stars and Stripes Honor Flight (SSHF) is in a race against the clock to honor them. SSHF has completed 12 Honor Flights to Washington, DC flying 1,800 veterans from southeast Wisconsin since the fall of 2008. Two more Honor Flights will happen this spring on April 28 and June 2 taking another 330 WWII veterans to see their memorials in Washington. All net proceeds from Field of Honor will ensure that these Honor Flights continue this fall.

Honor Flight is a national program with 110 hubs in 34 states, which offers these trips free of charge to WWII veterans. Each hub does its own fund raising to fly WWII veterans in their area.
The WWII Memorial did not open until 2004 and many veterans are unable to sit it without assistance.

Yesterday was just amazing! My grandpa is a WWII vet and he was able to come and see this yesterday too...it made him so happy!! Thank you to everyone involved with putting the documentary and this whole event together! :)
