Isn't this an exam only a doctor would give a patient? If so, why is this being shown at a community college where the highest level of education you can get would be an lvn certification? I know a few community colleges in a few states do offer RN programs, but even then, an RN wouldn't give this exam.

I'm just curious.

Oh, how little do you know Owens. I guess you're not up to date as to what's going on in the world of education. Nurses have to assess patients when receiving them so that they know how to proceed. Contrary to what you think MOST (if not all) Community Colleges offer RN programs. I suggest that you do some research before posting silly comments like that.

I'm unbelievably grateful for this video. I just started my clinicals and we briefly practiced assessments today. I was as nervous as a cat because I didn't want to mess up. I looked at this video three times and took notes. Now I'm confident of what I'm going to be doing tomorrow. Thanks so much!

Is there a sliding scale assement as to how health the patient is after the top to toe assement? Before a more detailed heatl assessment via blood tests, urnine analysis, ecg ect ect?

I'm doing development work on a selection program, and health checking is the phase before the fitness phase to assertain how fit a applicant is, but before that the applicant has to be of a reasonble health level to pass.

The applicants will be 18 years old to 68 years old inclusive and will be male and female.

@owensb01 It has been stated that a nurse is only as good as his or her assessment skills. I have not watched the video but we assess everything a medical doctor would because first we have to report to the medical doctor any findings, the nurse is usually the first person to see the patient in the hospital, we administer the medications and need to know the effects and outcome. Also beyond this basic assessment we have advanced assessment and focussed assessments. Complicated huh!
