@AulicExclusiva I like all the tenors you mention in the role of Edgardo (and many other arias). Bergonzi is a great stylist, but Tucker sings the part with more passion and beauty in my opinion. Merrill stated once that Peerce was his favorite Edgardo, while Tucker was superb as the Duke in Rigoletto.

@meltzerboy My favourite Edgardo on disk is Francesco Marconi, with a superb Italianate voice and elegant Nineteenth Century style. Alessandro Bonci, Giuseppe Anselmi and John McCormack were also great Edgardos, and left great disks to prove it. On modern recording, Carlo Bergonzi was perhaps the best: more style that Di Stefano, more voice than Tagliavini. Pavarotti too, of course, was a fine Edgardo, in his prime.

The weight and timbre of Callas' voice are well suited to the dramatic coloratura requirements of Lucia. Some have argued that Callas' voice is too dark and Sutherland's better approaches the ideal. Perhaps; however, Callas can color her tones to fit the part. Regardless, both are great Lucias. (I would have also loved to have heard the nightingales Patti, Sembrich, Melba, Tetrazzini, and Galli-Curci in the role.) And di Stefano is a superb Edgardo, as are Tucker and Schipa.
