"Sonic R" Speed Run (All emeralds) [11:26] Part 1

Played on Hard mode with clear weather.

==Resort Island (1:05.56)==
Not much to say about this race. A good run according to my path.

==Radical City (1:39.23)==
This path was especially selected with care. Taking all the shortcuts on the first lap is fine since I collect rings along the way, and grab both emeralds on the next lap. However, before I completed the lap, the bane of my existence popped out: the static shield. This makes getting rings extremely difficult unless I slow down. I lost a second to fall in the water, so I could get the 50 rings I needed (and barely got, thanks to a bubble shield coming out of the bonus token instead of rings.)

==Regal Ruin (1:20.93)==
This level is very fun. Not only is there a huge shortcut in the first and third laps, but both emeralds are in notably out-of-the-way places, giving Sonic and Tails enough time to hold the lead for all of 10 seconds. Not a bad run.

==Reactive Factory (1:45.26)==
This level also required a fine-tuned path. I must get 50 rings before the jump, 10 of which must come from the bonus token. In the first lap I open the door to the first emerald, but it takes a few seconds to collect it; I decide to come back for it later. The second emerald is much easier to grab on the go. Just don't ask what the heck happened in the third lap...somehow I missed the booster, bumped into two walls, and fell in the water.

It's strange. I though I would have been the first one to speed run this game. Oh well. At least I was planning on doing a 100% speed run anyways.

I've done 100% runs after posting this video, but my capture card broke. Basically I start at Reactive Factory to unlock Metal Knuckles, and work backwards. Super Sonic is again used for Radiant Emerald.  Message me if you want route details.

Did you choose Knuckles because you like him or is he the best character for collecting Chaos Emeralds? I have this game for PC and I almost always choose Tails because I think he's the easiest to control and, well, he's my favourite character. But now that I have all Chaos Emeralds I think Super Sonic is the best.

When you're speed running, you choose the character that performs the best. Tails is far too slow, though his handling is top-notch. Sonic is slightly faster than Knuckles, but his handling is way too stiff. Knuckles is an amazing balance between the two, able to turn rather well and only slightly slower than Sonic. Sonic only outperforms Knuckles on Radiant Emerald, but I switch to Super Sonic anyways.

They should have had an "Extreme" difficulty where the opponents take all these obscure paths. Would be interesting.
