Zico would replace German coach Wolfgang Sidka.
Iraqi Football Association members agreed to talk with former Brazilian star Arthur Antunes Coimbra, known as Zico, to coach the national team.

Deputy Head of IFA Abdulkhaliq Massoud said on August 9 that negotiations on contract terms will start as soon as IFA has obtained a visa for Zico.

"All IFA members decided offer a contract to Zico who, we believe, is the coach who can reshape the Iraqi national team in a positive way. I believe Zico will arrive in Baghdad next week," said Massoud

Zico played in three World Cups for Brazil -- 1978, 1982 and 1986. He has coached the Japanese national team, appearing in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and winning the Asian Cup 2004, and Turkish team Fenerbahçe, which was a quarter-finalist in 2007/08 in the Champions League under his command. He became head coach of CSKA Moscow in January 2009. In September 2009, Zico was signed by Greek team Olympiacos for a two-year contract.

Zico would replace German coach Wolfgang Sidka. Sidka's contract expired at the end of last month and was not renewed. IFA decided not renew Sidka's contact after Iraq had a no-score draw with Yemen in the second leg of its 2014 FIFA World Cup Round 2 qualifiers on July 30. The 2007 Asian champions beat Yemen in the first leg 2-0 in Erbil before eking out a goalless draw in the return match in Al Ain. The team qualified for the third round with an aggregate score of 2-0.
