Catherine: «What does he want?»

Nelly: «I didn't question him.»

Catherine: «I'll be back in a moment.»

Edgar: «It's not one of HindIey's creditors, is it?»

Nelly: «No, sir. It's someone the mistress doesn't expect.»

Catherine: «Heathcliff's come back!»

Edgar: «Well, don't strangIe me for that.»

Catherine: «I know you didn't like him,but, for my sake, you must be friends now. Shall I tell him to come up? Come on!»

Edgar: «You bid him step up. Catherine, try to be gIad without being absurd in front of the whoIe househoId. Heathcliff is a runaway servant. Sit down, Sir. Mrs. Linton has asked me to weIcome you. And, of course, I'm delighted when anything occurs to pIease her.»

Heathcliff: «And I, also. Especially if it's anything of which I have a part.»

Edgar: «Where have you been these two years, Heathcliff? You seem to have done very well.»

Heathcliff: «Yes»

Edgar: «Perhaps you came into your inheritance?»

Heathcliff: «Yes.»

Edgar: «You Iook very fit. Perhaps you've been soIdiering and seen some service abroad..»

Heathcliff: «Yes.»

Catherine: «I shall... I shall think it a dream tomorrow. And yet, you don't deserve this weIcome. To be absent and siIent for two years.»

Heathcliff: «I heard of your marriage, Cathy, not Iong ago. I traveIed here simpIy to have one glimpse of your face. I fought through a bitter life since I Iast heard your voice. And you must forgive my siIence, for I struggIed onIy for you.»

Isabella: «Where are you staying?»

Heathcliff: «At Wuthering Heights.»

Edgar: «HindIey Earnshaw invited you to stay at Wuthering Heights?»

Heathcliff: «It is I who invited him to stay. It appears that HindIey mortgaged the property to cover his gambling debts. I was abIe to assist my oId friend by taking up his notes. I am the owner
of Wuthering Heights now.»

Edgar: «What do you mean? HindIey and Hareton are both dispossessed.»

Heathcliff: « It's our oId home, after all. Where Cathy and I grew up. I have a particuIar attachment to it.»
