another good article to use as ballast for 0 gauge track is kitty litter, after applying use a spray bottle with heavily diluted water/Elmer glue to keep it down.

I'm into HO scale but never learned how to do this. I'm imagining it works basically the same way in HO, and in fact it's way easier than I would have thought. Thanks for the great video!

I don't glue the Ballast to my new 00 layout, I find it looks better for me having it sitting loose and it looks more effective and natural, then if I want to change it around you get a stocking on a vacuum hose and can vacuum up the ballast and reuse it after editing track!
