has anyone ever thought of making several new inlets, perhaps in lbi or ibsp? this could increase the water circulation. the water in barnegat bay currently currently takes 70 days to circulate. water circulation rate is, after all, the ONLY major difference between the healthy great bay system and the deplorable barnegat bay system. Both bays have well developed shores, and no-doubt have comparable nitrogen run-off factors.
Wow so sad to see about the place I grew up in going to ruin. I don't understand with all the rain, great soil and warm springs and summers why people need to use chemicals to fertilize their lawns? I live 2500 hundred miles away and was in Island Heights last year and the pollutions washing up was disgusting. What a shame. We used to go crabbing in Ocean Gate an catch dozens in a few hours.
Barnaget has been on the down slide for 40 years maybe more. when I was a kid, you couldn't put your hook in the water for 2 minutes without catching a fish. Clams were every where. I used to get 1.5 cents each for a clam. Now you hunt all day to find them. Fishing gets worse every year. What happened to the blow fish? so many in the past , you got tired of looking at them. Grasses were every where and a great place for crabs. No More!
So sad. I spent the best summers of my life clamming Barnegat with my Grandfather, bringing up 3 bushel baskets in less than a few hours. I've oftentimes though of how I'd like to see it again (it's been 31 years since last I was there), but I think it'd break my heart.
