It was sunny and much warmer when Joseph Meany first sailed into Plymouth Harbor aboard the Mayflower II 50 years ago. He was a 17-year-old cabin boy on the ship's maiden voyage. Meany celebrated the 50th anniversary of the historic event Wednesday with cake, autographs and interviews on the ship. Wednesday's event was the first in a series planned throughout the summer in celebration of the ship's 50th anniversary.

July 1: New dockside exhibit opens.
July 19: Eight of the original crew members from the Mayflower II's 1957 journey arrive in Plymouth. Plimoth Plantation hosts a special dinner for them celebrating ''Merry Ole England.'' Reservations are required. For more information, call Kim Fleischman at 508-746-1622.
July 20: Meet the crew dockside from 1 to 3 p.m. Crew members share stories and take another trip aboard the Mayflower II. The Plimoth Plantation's Visitor Center will hold holds a ''Ship in a Bottle Workshop'' from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations are required. For more information, call Kim Fleischman at 508-746-1622.
July 21: A fundraising dinner to support the ongoing restoration of the Mayflower II. The waterfront dinner will start starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $250. To buy tickets, call Anne Phelan at 508-746-1622, ext. 8222, or e-mail her at aphelan@plimoth.org.
July 22: The Mayflower II sails out to Cape Cod Bay with a 26-person crew and the eight remaining 1957 crew members. For more information, visit plimoth.org.
